When God Calls You, Be Prepared for the Cost

When God calls you to do something, it’s rarely convenient, comfortable, or simple. We love the idea of purpose — the excitement of stepping into something new, the beauty of being used by God — but we don’t always talk about the cost that comes with obedience.

When God called me to write my book, I thought the hardest part would be the writing itself. I had no idea that saying “yes” to Him would require sacrifice, stretching, and moments that tested my faith in ways I didn’t expect. Obedience sounds beautiful until you’re walking through the parts that feel anything but easy.

So why isn’t it always smooth? Why do difficulties show up after you say yes to God?

Because obedience is spiritual. Purpose is spiritual. Calling is spiritual.

And anything God ordains, the enemy opposes.

Sometimes the challenges come from circumstances. Sometimes from people. Sometimes from the weight of what you’re carrying. Sometimes from the refining God does in you as He prepares you for what He’s asked you to do.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

• Obedience will cost you something.

• Purpose will stretch you.

• Calling will confront parts of your life you didn’t expect.

• And God will meet you in every single step.

I don’t need to share the details of my own current struggles to tell you this truth: when you follow God, you will face resistance. But you will also experience His faithfulness in ways you never would have otherwise.

If God is calling you to something — writing, healing, forgiving, creating, leading, stepping out, or stepping up — be prepared. Not scared. Not discouraged. Just prepared.

Because the cost is real… but so is the reward.

And the reward is Him — His presence, His strength, His guidance, His peace, and the fruit that comes from walking in obedience.

If He’s calling you, trust Him. He will equip you. He will sustain you. And He will use your obedience to impact others in ways you may never fully see.
